Carlos Alcaraz, the young Spanish sensation, has taken the world by storm after having a phenomenal season including a Grand Slam win. The Spaniard was the first player to qualify for the ATP Finals. However, he started his run with a loss against Alexander Zverev but soon got back his momentum after a win against Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev to end as the winner of the red group.

On the other side of the net is the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who started the season incredibly but faced a hurdle in the form of Jannik Sinner, who ended his 19-win streak. The Serbian won his last round-robin match against replacement player Hubert Hurkacz but still couldn’t qualify for the semi-finals on his own terms. With Sinner’s win, Novak was also able to qualify and now faces the red group winner Alcaraz in a promising tennis clash.

Djokovic and Alcaraz have had a year of clashes as they squared off three times this year. It is time to end their H2H tie of 2 wins each. The Serbian won two of the three clashes this year and lost the most important match, the Wimbledon Finals. The Spaniard won that thriller of a match to secure his second Grand Slam title.

Their last matchup happened in the 2023 Cincinnati Finals, where the tennis fans witnessed one of the matches of the year. It was an electrifying finish for the Serbian who managed to beat Alcaraz from down a set 5-7,7-6(7),7-6(4).

Fans worldwide are awaiting this clash between the two top-ranked players who are both doing well in the tournament. If Alcaraz can maintain his previous game form, he might be able to steal another victory and move on to the finals of the tournament. However, predictions are in favor of the Serbian to take the match in 3 sets.

Match Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in a three-setter.

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will be meeting for the fifth time on the ATP tour in the semifinals of the Nitto ATP Finals 2023 on Saturday. They both survived early scares and the risk of elimination to progress to the knockout stage of the year-ending event. Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic will be the second semi-final on Saturday.

Their first meet in Madrid in 2022 showcased Alcaraz’s talent for the game, where the new talent bested countryman Nadal and Djokovic in the same event. The 20-year-old World No. 2 set up the semifinal showdown with the six-time champion with a win over Daniil Medvedev, who was unbeaten until then.

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic had a shaky start to their Nitto ATP Finals 2023 campaign. Djokovic won his first game against Holger Rune but lost the next match to Jannik Sinner. He went on to defeat Hubert Hurkacz in the final round Robin fixture but had to wait for the result of the Sinner-Rune match to learn of his fate. Sinner won, thus sending Djokovic through.

Alcaraz, too, did not have the ideal start, losing to Alexander Zverev, before regrouping to defeat Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev in back-to-back meetings to clinch his semifinal spot and take over the lead in the Red Group.

Djokovic and Alcaraz are 2-2 overall and 2-1 in 2023. Djokovic beat Alcaraz in the French Open quarter-final stage and the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati. Alcaraz won at Wimbledon in 2023 in a marathon five-setter, usually Djokovic’s forte. Djokovic is 13-3 against the top 10 and 33-1 on hard courts this season.

When Alcaraz won at Wimbledon, he denied the World No. 1 the chance to be the first man since Rod Laver to win a calendar Slam. That title was Alcaraz’s sole Grand Slam win of the 2023 season, as Djokovic claimed the remaining three major tournaments.

Other contenders include Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev who have both won nine titles between them this season, but have been overshadowed by the brilliance of Djokovic and Alcaraz in recent times.
